Welcome to the Introduction to Standards and Standards Development Processes Course.

Course Overview

In our day-to-day life, starting from food product packaging to electronic equipment, we all prefer products designed and developed using standards. The simple psychology behind this organic preference is the trust that these standards earn through consistency and rigorous testing.

No surprise that the industry behind these products believes and works on the same principle. And so, it becomes important for all of us to understand the concept of standards, how standards are created and implemented in the real world.

The Introduction to Standards and Standards Development Processes course provides an overview of standards, the importance of standards, how standards are created and implemented, and how one can participate in the standard development process.

Course Objective:

This course will help you understand

  • What are standards
  • Why standards are used
  • How standards are developed
  • WTO principles for international standards development
  • How one can participate in standard development
  • UL standard development process

Duration: ~45 min

Speaker: Manjunath V.

Important Note: This course is a prerequisite for the Masterclass Series on Safety and Standards of Energy Storage Systems jointly organized by IESA and Underwriters Laboratories Inc.

About Masterclass Series on Safety and Standards of Energy Storage Systems:

The transportation and energy ecosystems are undergoing a dynamic transition globally with a paradigm shift from lead-acid to lithium-ion batteries. With the increased demand for electric vehicles and stationary energy, energy storage systems are becoming a necessity of these ecosystems.

As we scale up production and usage of energy storage systems, it is critical to establish, understand and follow standards and safety precautions to avoid future predicaments.

On this background, IESA in association with Underwriters Laboratories Inc. brings a Masterclass Series on Safety and Standards of Energy Storage Systems that will help participants understand different ESS standards and their implementation.

Standards for Lithium-ion Batteries is the first session from the masterclass. The remaining sessions from the Masterclass Series on Safety and Standards of Energy Storage Systems are:
